Oct. 2Improving Retention and Addressing Misconceptions:  Models of teaching center of mass, electric circuits, and other science concepts. (Willis)

Oct. 16Inquiry Extended: Planning Plant Investigations with Fast Plants.  Living material designed for classroom use in extended investigations. (STC materials to be raffled.)  (Willis)

Nov. 13  – Insect Investigations – The role of insects in the animal world and their relationships with other arthropods; embedded assessments, big ideas, resources, and life cycle concepts.  Slideshow for insect lessons provided for your travel drive, so don’t forget to bring it!  (Willis)

Nov. 20 – 2D/3D Geometry – Explore how to promote student understanding of shapes, spatial relationships, and visualization. (Schultz)

 Dec. 4 and Dec. 18 – Assessment Strategies in Math, Part I and II – Learn what you really need to do in order to prepare children for standardized testing. (Schultz)

Jan. 15 – Number and Operations – Deepen your understanding and ability to teach basic operations with whole numbers and fractions. (Schultz)

 
May 21 –  Rocks and Minerals – Observation and description; comparing and contrasting; basic vocabulary and concepts of geology; and what a geologist does when studying rocks and minerals.  (Mazzaro)

MORE:  Keep in touch with Dr. Willis and other PRISM staff by webcam.  We can help guide you through the process for maintaining classroom access to the PRISM staff.  Programming is available for lessons by interactive video-chats with PRISM staff at the Montclair campus, Dr. Willis and environmental educators in rainforests in Panama and Belize, the geologists at the Sterling Hill Mine, and other fieldworkers at other sites.  Call for fees and check our website for latest postings.
