The year-long e-CUSP Academy will consist of a 12-day summer institute, in-class assistance, and follow-up workshops on campus. Workshop experiences will increase mathematical and scientific knowledge and enable transfer to classroom teaching. Teachers will examine plants indoors and outdoors in order to:

  • Integrate mathematics topics within the context of science.
  • Communicate findings, analyze results, and connect new information to what they already know.
  • Learn how to design assessments and use them to refine teaching approaches.
  • Investigate plant life and ecology to address multiple state standards.
  • Design experiments, use notebooking as a tool, and create literacy lessons.
  • Formulate questions, collect and graph data, and interpret results.
  • Make t-tables, graphs, and plots; understand modes, ranges, and medians.
  • Estimate, order numbers, use numerical evidence, plot data, and interpret outliers.

Do all this, get paid and fed, become a more confident teacher, and have fun too!

Follow-Up Program In order to assist in the implementation of new classroom approaches learned in the summer, the e-CUSP program includes year-long follow-up in the classroom and on campus. The e-CUSP Follow-Up Team is composed of former classroom teachers. They visit teachers to assist in science and math teaching. To focus their teaching efforts, e-CUSP teachers and their classes may take diagnostic science and math surveys using electronic keypad response entry. The team offers guidance in planning and teaching approaches. Ask us for a chance to meet an e-CUSP team member to talk about what they do.

Follow-up workshops will be held on campus in the PRISM Center. Teachers may choose to attend individual workshops or an entire series that can be taken for PD hours or Continuing Education Units (CEU’s). Programs will be held at teacher-friendly times from 5:00 to 8:30 pm. Meeting with colleagues for an evening with refreshments and lessons to take home is a rejuvenating experience, an oasis within the hectic school year.

Even if your district is not currently in the e-CUSP Academy, now is the time to enroll for the Summer Institute in 2008. Questions? Call 973-655-7753. Register online: http://prism.montclair.edu/prism/ecusp2008.html
